6th Dada Saheb Phalke Award 2016 for the Best short film was bagged by a group of students of BDM International for their short film, NIYATI-The Destiny.

The Director of NIYATI is Ayush Bhattacharya , a class XII student .Along with him was his 4 class mates—Souhitya Sar, who wrote the screenplay, Srinjan Pratap, who did the editing, Sabarni Dasgupta, who did the art designing and Deep Mondal, the director of photography.

Niyati is a story about a magician who is losing his memory when he meets a child fascinated by magic. Indrajit Roy, physics and chemistry teacher at BDM International, played the magician.The film was completed in a fortnight and equipments were mostly borrowed. But the dedication of the students have been paramount resulting in such a grand success. They are also grateful to their mass media teacher, Sourav Sil, whom they consider instrumental for their success.

Of the 800 entries at the festival, 285 short films, documentaries and music videos were officially selected and 147 of them screened.

Principal, Vijaya Chaudhari is proud of her students. She mentioned the way in which the school provided the students with morale support and infrastructure. Overall, the team from BDM International has become a great benchmark for the school and has brought it into limelight.
