Female candidates have had remarkable success in this year’s Madrasa Board Exam. The High Madrasa Merit List 2016 is heavily dominated by girls. Out of the top 13 students who made it to top 10 in the merit list, 8 of them were girls.
This year High Madrasa topper with a total aggregate of 748 is Samuna Khatoon from Basanti Heduatulla High Madrasa, Samjhia, and South Dinajpur. Lagging by a mark and bagging the 2nd place in this year’s High Madrasa exam is Sabbir Ahmed, from Gangaprasad High Madrasa, Murshidabad. With a total of 744, Shabnam Khatoon from Rasulpoor High Madrasa at Bakura has been the 3rd rank holder. Most of the students who made it to the merit list of the Madrasa Exam, have achieved their stellar results inspite of their abject poverty.
The chairman of the Board, has announced that this year’s High Madrasa’s success rate is 76.06%. The success rate for Aalim and Fazil examinations are 78.10% & 80.05% respectively. In all the three exams, the success rates have been higher than previous year’ success rates. Last year’s success rates for High Madrasa, Aalim and Fazil examinations were 78%,78.06% and 78.06% respectively.Total number of candidates sitting for High Madrasa this year was 45426 in all. Though in absolute numbers, female candidates have seemed to dominate the success in this year’s Madrasa, but in case of success rates, boys have fared better than girls . The success rates for boys and girls are 82.25% and 75.04% respectively.
Sumana stays near the Bangladesh border, in a remote village called Bewul. She is the third child in a very poor family, which cannot even provide two square meals a day. Necessary books and copies are out of her reach. But defeating all such odds, she bagged the first spot in the State. She aspires to become a school teacher when she grows up. Sabbir Ahmed is also from a very poor family. His father works as a daily labour. So the family has to go through financial crisis every day. This forced Sabbir, a big fan of cricket to stay at his maternal-uncle’s house and study. As books were not affordable for him, he used to go and sit in the school library to study from reference books. Sensing his talent, Sabbir was assisted by his Madrasa Teachers even outside the class. Right now, Sabbir wants to focus for his class XI and XII and aspires to become a doctor when he grows up.
Shabnam from her childhood only, stays with her uncle and aunty. Throughout her school life, she has always been among the top 2 students of her class. From a small age only, she dreamt of becoming a doctor. In her leisure time, besides academics, Shabnam loves drawing and reading story books. He teachers really helped her in her road to success.
Mushfiqa Khatoon, from Amirabad High Madrasa, Murshidabad, with a total of 743 marks, is the 4th rank holder in this year’s Madrasa followed by Ghulam Sarwar Sarkar of the same district, from Ramnagar High Madrasa, who bagged the 5th spot with an aggregate of 741. According to Ghulam, “ My parents have been instrumental behind my success”. From Rasulpoor High Madrasa, two students, Hal-Farhana Tasneem and Naimuddin Mandal, have made It to the merit list this year. Farhana received 737, and is at the 6th position in the merit list.
