One of the most talked about Alumni Events 2016 is the Alumni meet at the Silver Jubilee Reunion of the ICSE batch of 1990, Loreto Day School, Dharamtala. The occasion, held at Calcutta Club on 18th June 2016, witnessed a ‘red’ gathering, which was a way of remembering the good old school days as red used to be the color of their school uniform. Not only alumni, but also teachers gathered for the event, mainly to catch up with their old students with years of storytelling left due. When the significance of the event to her was asked, Debarati Chanda, an Alumnus recalled about the care she got from the teachers while she fell ill during their school trip to South-east Asia. She recalled how, in a foreign country, she didn’t feel the need of her mother because of her teachers.
Another Alumnus, Priyanka Sengupta attributes whatever she is today to her school. With a smile to her face, she told how she and Mrs Dasgupta shared a connection which she still cherishes. In fact, the eastern music teacher was so good at her job that even though she didn’t like eastern as much as western music, she still remembers by heart all that she was taught. It was an event of catching up as lots of alumnus where seen chatting away with their teachers, and the teachers too seemed engrossed in learning about the life experiences of the once school going girls they used to teach. After all, 25 years of professional and personal life events can never really be summed up in short!
A major attraction of the event was the rendition of the school anthem. Arpita Chatterjee, a Delhi-based alumnus, who herself is a teacher now gave an insight into the farewell day of the school. She informed how the teachers organized a formal lunch with in-house cooking and beauty contest, something that is still etched in her memories. Whilst Alumni gave insight into the student life hacks, Mary Khan, a teacher, narrated stories from her school life. All in all, the event spanned out to be a great reunion with the promise that they will try to keep in touch until next time and another day added to the ‘archives’ of their ‘school diary’.
