Arpita Akhanda was born and brought up in Cuttack, Odisha. Her late grandfather was an artist and poet of Odisha and same is his father. She was interested in art and is also a trained Odishi dancer. She attended Kendriya Vidyalaya in Cuttack where she had developed skills in painting and gained confidence by participating and winning different competitions. She joined Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati and Santiniketan to pursue bachelors in painting. She topped her batch and got direct entry in masters. The Telegraph You Scholarship is not just a financial boost but has given her the confidence to prove herself. She plans to study curation after her masters. She also wants to support young artists and own her personal gallery someday, where students can study the history of art and artists. The scholarship will help her climb the first steps to achieve her dreams.
