Almost half of the students in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad carry school bags that are heavier than the government prescribed norms. As many as 100 schools were inspected by the Deputy Director of Education, Pune. Officials checked the school bags in two schools per block in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal areas. Data from 38 schools were prepared, which revealed that 41.26% students had bags which weighed above the prescribed limit. In 38 schools, 378 school bags were checked, out of which, 156 bags weighed above the prescribed limit while 222 students had bags as per the recommended limit.
