Having received around 1,500 applications to start new schools in the state, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has its hands full. 300 of them have come for schools in Bengaluru South and North Zones for 71 and 62 applications respectively. This year’s number is almost double compared to 2014 where DPI received 800 applications only. A source in the department said that the 2015 figure is the highest DPI has ever seen.
After scrutinising 238 of the 1,500 applications, DPI has rejected 183.In Bengaluru North alone, 57 applications have been rejected.
