Ananya Upadhyay, a student of Sri Kumaran Children’s Home CBSE, Bengaluru, was declared as the national champion of India’s largest spelling competition, Classmate Spell Bee. The competition was conducted across 30 cities in India and witnessed participation of over 3 lakh students in 950 schools to test their English spelling. The competition was hosted by Soha Ali Khan. The contest also witnessed Sam yukta Shrivatsa from PSBB Learning Leadership Academy, Bengaluru finish as the first runner-up. The champion was given a prize of Rs. 2 lakh and will get to witness the prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee 2016 with a parent in Washington DC. The four semi-finalists won Rs. 50,000/- each. After a city-level competition, the top 16 from across the country fought it out in the finals and will be telecasted on Discovery Channel, Discovery Kids and Discovery Tamil.
