Clad in saffron robes, a class VIII student led the peace march of over 400 students who gathered near Palace Road to pay tribute to spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda on his 154th birth anniversary. The occasion is celebrated across the country as National Youth Day.

Bharath Scouts and Guides volunteers from over 30 schools participated in the event flagged off by acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, Subhro Kamal Mukherjee, at Shanthigruha on the premises of the Maharani Science College.

Explaining how Swami Vivekananda carried the message of India and peace across the borders, Mukherjee urged students to follow in his footsteps. Various colleges in the city, too, organized programmes to mark the occasion.

More than 4.5 lakh youths wore the Vivek Band as part of the `Be good and do good’ campaign, organized by NGO Samartha Bharata Trust. The NGO aims to connect with nearly 12 lakh people across Karnataka who will wear the band and promote social volunteerism among youth.
