The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) will introduce biometric attendance for school students from the next academic year to boost flagging attendance in schools. Schools enrolled under Cantonment’s seven schools are mostly from poor families. Board officials predict that this might be a reason for thin attendance. With the introduction of biometric system, attendance of every student can be tracked. But finger recognition is not viable for young children as fingerprints develop at a certain age. A viable option is using face-recognition software as an attendance system.
