A few days later students and principals of blind schools were left elated over the decision to allow adult writers during examinations for students with special needs, the Bombay High Court sought further discussions before the Maharashtra government resolution takes effect. On 8th January 2016, the state had issued a government resolution outlining concessions to be given to students with special needs during examinations. A major concession was to provide adult writers for students with special needs during board examinations. Till date, the rules mandated that the students could avail a writer who had to be from at least one standard below. The decision to allow adult writers was welcomed by both blind school principals and students.

According to the new concessions that have been laid out in the government resolution, e students would be able to avail the service of an adult writer during Class X and XII examinations while writers for internal school exams would still have to be one year junior. The adult writer for the board exams, however, cannot be a student’s parents or any family member, and prior verification and permission shall be sought from the state board for the writer.
