The Ramatwar Gupt Pratibha Puraskar by Sanmarg Foundation, partnered by The Telegraph, held at Science City Auditorium on 25th June is an initiative to encourage students to perform well in Hindi. Board toppers 2016 in Hindi, like every year, is to be felicitated at the event. A total of 300 students from Calcutta and Howrah Schools will become the recipient of this prestigious feat. Not only the students, but the best school will also receive a special award. Top 3 performers from each board will receive cash prizes. There are mainly two divisions, The Ankur Puraskar-awarded to students who have excelled in extra-curricular activities associated with Hindi and the Ajay Puraskar-to honour the grit of those students who have scored well despite recently developed Physical disabilities.
According to the director of Sanmarg Foundation, Ruchika Gupta, with over 3500 entries from different boards, the response is at an all time high. To cope up with it, the foundation has raised the cut-off this year, thereby resulting in a stricter, eligibility criteria. She further added how successful their mission of encouraging the national language is by citing the fact that their award has actually propelled students to increase their percentile marks across all boards. So while a decade back, 90-92 would have been an unchartered territory meant only for the special cases, nowadays even 99 is achieved by many a students. She pointed out that, her foundation also provides scholarships for higher studies in Hindi to students and that they are more than happy to do so.
