A boy of Ramkrishan Mission Vidyalaya Narendrapur has made the state proud by making it to PROMYS, a highly competitive mathematics summer camp at Boston University, Massachusetts. Among the five selected from the nation, he is one, the Class XII student of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya. Soumen Ghosh will join around 60 others from all over the world to face the problems that challenge will them in Number Theory. The participants will be assisted by the Counsellors from Ivy League schools such as Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale. The duration of theprogramme is from July 3 to August 13.
“This is a huge moment in my career. I can’t wait to interact with some of the top mathematicians of the world. Besides participating in the Number Theory challenge, I will also take part in advanced seminars in Modular Forms, Mathematics of Computer Graphics, and Geometry and Symmetry,” said Ghosh.
His headmaster Swami Vedapurushananda said that he wasn’t surprised by this news given the boy’s penchant for solving problems. He also added that, “Soumen has certainly done his maths. He is also a winner of Indian National Mathematical Olympiad, 2015.”
