CBSE Results 2016 records that students have risen by 50% to opt for CBSE Std XII over the last five years. The number of students opting for senior secondary (class XII) has increased in the CBSE Schools.
This has been attributed by the experts to a growing need to continue in the `school-pattern’ and increased focus on competitive exams. According to the available data, in 2012 as many as 9,996 students appeared for the class XII CBSE exams in Maharashtra. This year the number went up to 15,071. The number of schools in the state that offered CBSE class XII increased from 163 to 253 in a span of five years.
The principals say that a change in perception about the ‘tough’ CBSE curriculum is also adding to the numbers. “Earlier, the common perception was that CBSE is much tougher and higher in level of difficulty but that has changed now. It was an unnecessary fear that people had about the curriculum. The curriculum gives students a lot of choices to select from. Students have realized this, have better resources and so opt to continue with the CBSE for senior secondary,” said the western regional director of DAV Public Schools, Jose Kurien. He also added that only a handful students switched from their schools the state board after class X.
The curriculum also providesan edge to students when preparing for national-level entrance exams based largely on the books of NCERT.
