Be it winter or not, Christmas is coming to Calcutta with great fanfare on 16th December with Kolkata Christmas Festival. Let’s check out the list of happenings:
- 16th December Wednesday: Venue- Allen Park, Park Street.
6pm: Inauguration by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee followed by blessing of the Crib by Reverend Thomas D’Souza, Archbishop of Calcutta and the inauguration of Food Carnival by State Tourism minister Bratya Basu.
30-8pm: Christmas carols by Welland Gouldsmith School Choir, Archdiocesan Bengali Choir and Assembly of God Church Choir.
8pm-9.30pm: Live music by Plan B and Saturday Night Blues. - 17th December Thursday:
6pm-7pm: Christmas carols by Bengali choir Mercy Band and Campus Crusade for Christ and an English Choir, ShredxXx (from Christ The King church).
7pm-9pm: Live Music by Rodney Rodrigues, Priscilla Corner and Blue Mist. - 18th December Friday:
6pm-7pm: Christmas carols by Babita Peters (Englsih and Hindi carols), Dr. Graham’s Homes School Choir, Christmas Theme Modern Dance-Natalie Pote Shaw and Group.
7pm-9pm: Live music by Academy for Musical Excellence and Hereafter. DL Austin will also be present. - 19th December Saturday:
5pm: Dragon Dance.
30pm-7pm: Christmas carols by Scottish Church College Choir, Apostles English Choir, Voicestra and English choir from Our Lady of Vailankanni Church.
7pm-9pm: Live music by Krosswindz, Kamran Khurshid and Span. - 20th December Sunday:
2pm-3pm: Christmas Pageant on Park Street. Students from more than 20schools from across the city will take part in this colourful Christmas parade depicting “the Twelve Days of Christmas”.
30pm-6.30pm: Christmas carols by Methodist School Choir, Calcutta Girl’s School Choir, Calcutta Boy’s School Choir and Messengers English Choir.
6.30pm-9pm: Live music by Orient Express, Hip Pocket and Shayne Hyrapiet. - 21st December Monday:
30pm-8pm: Programmes will be organised by Calcutta Police. - 22nd December, Tuesday:
30pm-7pm: Christmas carols by Jolly Bell Orphanage Choir, Darjeeling and Babita Peters will be followed by a fashion show by tribal Christians Darjeeling and Chinese Moon Dance.
7pm-9pm: Live music by Christopher Lobo, Barefoot and Chords Vocal Blues. Expect DJ Austin to keep the party mood soaring with his beats. - 23rd December Wednesday:
30pm-6.30pm: A performance by Army Band followed by live music by Kamran & Faizan Khursid, Angelo Biswas, AMEC (Academy for Musical Excellence) and Indrajit Dey of Soulmates.
