In a turn of events, the CISCE has been thinking over a probable change of syllabus for its affiliated school to accommodate for Entrance Tests. Gerry Arathoon, the council’s chief executive and secretary said on Tuesday that introducing special classroom coaching, beyond usual school hours, for engineering and medical aspirants, to help them crack the entrance tests is one of the major aim for the council. He further pointed out that other changes such as distributing course material, model questions, recorded video lectures and other specialized help to those aiming to crack IIT-JEE (mains) and NEET are also been looked after.
When enquired about the sudden change in syllabus, Arathoon explained that the council wants to make sure students attend classes regularly, as is the case with most students who are opting for CBSE due to their relaxed norms. Unlike CBSE, ISC doesn’t believe in allowing students to opt for tuitions. In fact, many a students come to class drowsy due to the overburdened stress of beyond-school hour tutorials which they take. Thus this smart move , according to Gerry Arathoon, will help reduce the pressure of coaching classes and tutorials on students.
Engineering and medical aspirants may be given additional classroom teaching beyond regular school hours, either the school faculty themselves will be providing the extra classes, aimed at cracking entrance examinations , or the schools may have to arrange to engage more professionals qualified to teach competitive exam aspirants. However, it will not be a tutorial or coaching class. The council has realigned the syllabus of the science subject of classes XI-XII and have made it in line with that of the CBSE syllabus. The following are the change in syllabus :
- BIOLOGY
- Physiology to be taught in class XI instead of class XII
- Genetics to be taught in class XII instead of class XI
- CHEMISTRY
- Surface Chemistry to be taught in class XII instead of class XI
- Chemical and ionic equilibrium to be taught in class XI instead of class XII
- Hydrogen to be taught in class XI instead of class XII
- MATHEMATICS
- Conic Sections will be taught in class XI instead of class XII
- Portions of calculus will be taught class XII instead of class XI
- PHYSICS
- Chapter of communication system to be taught in class XII
On the other end of this, the council is also framing its own syllabus for students from pre-primary classes to class VIII and It will be implemented from the 2017 academic session and schools affiliated to CISCE will have to follow it mandatorily, as per the council CEO. Till now, schools have never been given any syllabus drafted by the council. Another change to be introduced is to revamp the English literature syllabus from Class IX to Class XII. Thus in the upcoming academic session the nation will see a complete syllabus makeover of the ICSE, scattered over all levels.
