City schools screen movies to teach life skills and values to children instead of offering boring Moral Science lectures. Schools are seen to opt for cinema as a mode to inculcate life skills and values to children. Schools are adapting material known as ‘School Cinema’ which are developed by experts guided norms set by organizations like WHO and UNICEF.There sre separate films for all classes. For classes I & II, 10 films covering fables are shown. In Class III, a family of bears takes little children through the ways of life and the cars take over in classes IV and V. Things get more serious after this with topics such as bullying, low self-confidence and poor self-image taking over. There are topics like puberty, sexual abuse and inert-personal relations which are shown to students of senior level classes.
Schools have now made it mandatory for students to watch these films and fill their worksheets thereafter. Around 10 top schools in Kolkata have opted for this mode of learning. Students are seen to enjoy these sessions at large and increase their interests in studies.
