St. Xaviers Collegiate School is all geared up for sending a bunch of their students for the study Exchange Programmes abroad to two very good and heavily rated international schools:
- The Shida Fuzong High School in Kunming, CHINA.
- The Belvedere College in Dublin, IRELAND.
There were two groups, out of which the one that went to Ireland’s Belvedere College for a fortnight, comprised of a group of class XII students. The boys were supposed to interact with differently abled children during their trip. The other group of students who went to Kunming consisted of a bunch of class X students for a 10 day educational trip.
Both teams of students were accompanied by teachers—both of them English teachers—Ranjit Bhattacharjee for the junior team to China and Beverly Fernandes for the Seniors to Ireland. While Ranjit is the more experienced of the two with this trip marking his second visit, Beverly being on his maiden trip is as excited as her students.
A pep talk session was held four days before the tour and it saw the Principal Father Benny Thomas sharing his last years exchange experience with the fresh batch. Both teams saw everyone singing Hindi and English morale boosting songs. According to Father Thomas, the exchanges are great opportunities for the students to learn and understand the difference in culture, forge friendship among students, while at the same time keeping their Indian identity intact. To bolster support for Father Thomas’s statement, Yang Xiaoyi, a Chinese exchange student from China, expressed his exchange experience in one line that it is nothing but 10 days of unadulterated fun and friendship.
