With the State Government informing the Bombay High Court that it has issued a government resolution reducing the weight of school bags, the court declared that the state shall look towards ensuring implementation. But it must be ensured that the government resolution is made available across all schools and schools must ensure its implementation. A bench of Justices were hearing a public interest litigation by Swati Patilon reducing the weight of school bags in which clues making available lockers for children if possible, a single note-book for joint subjects and keeping books for subjects like drawing, work experience, physical education and computers in school.
A committee had been set up to look which school earlier starts implementing the measures, i.e. the school bag should not exceed 10 percent of the body weight.
