At Panchasayar Siksha Niketan, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur, South Point High School, Scottish Church Collegiate School & St Lawrence High School, the scenes were similar. Hogging the limelight with their outstanding performance in the  Higher Secondary Results 2016,  these schools have all found themselves in the merit list. And the  key to success seems to be hidden in the languages. Schools who have outperformed others have all focused on maximizing their score in the two languages.

According to Krishan Damani, spokesperson of South Point School, the children were lagging behind in languages. In last few years, languages were neglected and that had affected the results. However, scene was different yet similar to South point at RKM Narendrapur whose eight among 76 students feature on the top 10 list. The stress at RKM Narendrapur is on class work. Every student has to attend all the classes from morning till evening. This helps the teachers to understand the weakness of students. Since it is a boarding school, all students are encouraged to study together. This way they help out each other in their weak areas as explained by a senior teacher of the school. The students lead a much disciplined life. In maths this year, almost 16 students scored a perfect 100. The average aggregate of all science students is 92.1%. As many as 59 candidates have scored more than 90%  added headmaster Swami Vedpurushananda.

In Scottish Church Collegiate School, 214 candidates appeared in the HS this year and 140 among them scored over 60%.  Riddha Ghosh and Mousam Dutta are rankholders. Fifteen students from the school got over 90%.The school organizes audio-visual sessions for Class XII students and try to give them a better grip of the subject. Moreover, this year the scores in languages are better. St Lawrence School on the other hand, attributes the success to the coordination between students and teachers. The students are given regular homework. Every month, apart from the council-specified exams, additional tests are conducted on Mondays. Among 260 students, 14 have scored above 90%.

Thus it seems that the new trend of scoring big in the exam now no longer lies only with science and maths but does so on languages.
