ICSE results 2016- Maths, computer marks stun schools in Kolkata as the students could have performed better in these subjects. ICSE results have been declared and students have performed extraordinary this time, but some schools were downhearted with the scores in mathematics and computers. Had they notched up marks in these subjects, the students could have fared better. “We had expected far better scores in math from our students. In computers, too, they could have fared better. But scores have been a shade lower than what had been expected. We are still analyzing the results to identify the reasons, “said Joseph Pathickal, principal of Don Bosco School, Park Circus. Even though results in these subjects have led to disappointment, many have scored better in humanities, pointed out Nabadrun De, principal of Central Modern School in Baranagar. “Traditionally, ISCE students are geared to do better in science subjects for obvious reasons. But this time, many have fared well in geography, civics and even accounts. Scores in accounts, however, could have been better. Our school average is pretty ordinary but it happens to be higher than the national average. This is surprising,“ he said. The principal of Heritage School, Seema Sapru, felt that the subject scores were satisfactory and normal. At a glance, the ICSE results have been pretty good. The city has two national rankers, which is good. Girls have been doing better than boys and the trend continues. But we are yet to analyze the mathematics and computer scores. Our students have done consistently good in these. Let's hope the trend continues this year,“ said Sapru. In West Bengal, 31,251 students gave ICSE from 338 schools. While 56.32% of them were boys, 46.83% were girls. In spite being fewer in number, girls fared better than boys. While 98.34% girls passed, 97.74% of the boys were successful. The overall pass percentage in ICSE was 98.05%.
