Around 30% of the 2.5 lakh seats available in Arts, Commerce and Science at the undergraduate level in Mumbai University are for self-financed courses. Noticing the increase in demand, universities are now offering 15 such courses.
B.com has always remained the top choice among city students; but courses like BMS, BMM and BSc-IT are seen to increase in demand. Such market-oriented courses assure good placements and also offers specialised trainings. With the rising popularity of such courses, international school students have also started to prefer these over traditional courses. Since they are self-financed courses, colleges does not receive any grants from the government, making the course fee high.
