Kalakosh- The Inter School Competition hosted by the South Point High School, under the aegis of the M P Birla Smarak Kosh was a grand success. The event was comprised of events covering a wide range of activities which included singing, debate, drama, quiz, chess, creative writing and many more. A few of the highlights from the event is listed below:
- Chess-mate: The mind racking competition on the black and white chequered board kick started the event
- Satrangi : This event saw the likes of Raghab Chattopadhyay and Haimanti Shukla judging the contestants who gave soul-rendering melodies and set the tune for the evening in literal sense. The team from Gokhale Memorial Girls’ School was the winner of the competition which is a title well defended by the school to make it two in two for this event. Sanchari Auddy, a class XI student bagged the best singer award for her melodious Ek Radha Ek Meera in the judges choice round. The event was more highlighted by the host, singer Ritika Sahni.
- Cerebrate: This event saw six schools going against each other for the title. The motion in the house was “ Democracy gives us the right to express ourselves without inhibition. The debate session was moderated by Kunal Sarkar of Calcutta Debating Circle and was judged by Swati Gautam, Pradeep Gooptu and Shankar Ramalingam. The session saw heated debating and ideas put forth by the youngsters which is attacked and counter attacked by others. The boys from Birla High School emerged as winners followed by Modern High School for Girls and Mahadevi Birla World Academy in second and third positions respectively. Sohom Chakraborty of Birla High was awarded the Best Speaker who was elated at the laurel.
- Q-Point: The quiz event was much more fun filled an affair than it would otherwise had been if Barry O’ Brien hadn’t been the quizmaster. The award for the top spot went to the boys from St. James School who were heavily challenged by the teams from Lakshmipat Singhania Academy and Birla High School in 2nd and 3rd position respectively. However, the best quizzer award went to Shivansh Mishra form Lakshmipat Singhania.
- Masquerade: The events were given that X-factor by this one-act play competition which had it’s themed central to the most recent and trending topic of every discussion—Gen Y’s fascination with gadgets and ways to quell social evil. The 12 participating schools gave it their best shot by their amazing scripts, acting skills and dialogue delivery to impress everyone. The events jury panel consisted of Dhritiman Chatterjee, Sohag Sen and Bibhas Chakraborty. The winners were the girls team from Gokhale Memorial School who took home the MP Birla Trophy for their play—“In search of pure earth”. The Host School staged “Not a Tragedy-A tribute to Tagore’s Muktodhara” which came out as a vivid narration on the societies moral degeneration . The Best Actor Award was bagged by Akashneel Ghatak, a class XII student of South Point High School.
- Perceptum: The final but not less than any event in terms of glamous was the essay competition held in all the three language of Hindi, Bengali and English. 120 participants from nearly 24 schools put pen to paper to portray their canvas of thoughts. Unmesha Mishra of class XII South Point, a first time participant said that her topic was A nation’s culture resides in the heart and soul of its people and shows how difficult the competition wasl.
At the end of the event, when principal of South Point High School was asked about her reaction to the event, she described it as a fantastic platform for youngsters to vent their skills and boos their self confidence in the process. She mentioned that this year the participation was huge and it was indeed a delight to see so many children performing in such a skillfull and matured way.
