The largest number of winners were crowned from the city in the recently conducted International Mental Arithmetic and Abacus competition organised by Ucmas. A Class VIII student from the city was declared the grand champion among students of 20 countries. Ucmas is a global organization that has been promoting mental mathematics in 57 member countries with the Indian Ministry of human resources development as one of the signatories. A total of 121 city children have won competitions across categories meant for students from classes I-VIII. Among schools that have excelled are Ballygunj Siksha Sadan, Heritage School, Modern High School, La Martiniere for Boys’, Ram Mohan Mission, St. James School and AG Church School.
