Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal described the roadmap in education and Delhi Government’s philosophy in one simple sentence: “Corruption-free India is not our only goal, our goal is also an educated India, which will be the medium to make India corruption-free”. In the first budget itself, the education budget was doubled which was an indicator of huge reforms to come in the education sector. The education minister’s surprise school inspections, teacher training and development of 54 model schools have delivered immediate results. Parents had stated clearly that visible changes can be seen in government schools. Schools are much cleaner now, with clean toilets and provision of drinking water. Better teacher attendance has been one of the biggest positives from the status quo of irregular or incomplete teacher attendance. Students and teachers are feeling the positive change. The Education Minister also has a separate Twitter account called Minister_Edu through which he communicates directly with the teachers. The WhatsApp Group of the Education Minister has constant updates, reports, reviews and directives amongst the education department. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also conducts a weekly status review on issues related to education. A transformative change has been the constitution of efficient and diligent school management committees. Members including parents and social workers conduct weekly status updates of each and every school whose report is consolidated straight to the Education Minister. The Government, through all these moves want to improve the quality of education to such a level that parents send their kids to government schools over private schools.
