Keep it short & sharp-this is the message from the Madhyamik Board to its students who will be appearing for the examination in the coming session. The state board is bringing a whole lot of changes from Madhyamik 2017 to keep pace with the central boards and give students from Bengal a level playing field. The new system will help Madhyamik examinees score as high as ICSE or CBSE students. It was our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who insisted on a revamp of the syllabus and the exam pattern.
Examinees will be getting word limits in short answers and analytical questions in all subjects. Teachers will be able to check answer scripts without being prejudiced. Maximum marks restricted to each question will be eight. The syllabus revamp committee has also suggested the Madhyamik Board to introduce 25% MCQ containing one mark each, 15% short answer type question containing two marks each and 50% analytical type questions of three and five marks. The rest 10% will be kept aside for internal marks by the school. The committee has also recommended doing away with the 10 marks oral examinations in all subjects. The oral exam will be replaced by a formal evaluation where students will be evaluated throughout the year. The marks will be included in the board mark sheet.
