Madhyamik result 2016-More students score 90% in ICSE than Madhyamik. La Martiniere for Boys this year has performed brilliantly as 75 of the 174 students secured above 90%. Whereas, those who had appeared for Madhyamik from Nalanda School this year , only 31 of 327 students managed to score above 90%. The national ICSE topper, Abineet Parichha of Bolangir, scored a massive 99.2%. On the other hand, Souvik Barman, the Madhyamik topper scored 97.57%.
The figures implies that while 5 % of the total 11.4 lakh Madhyanik candidates managed to bag an overall AA grade or 90%, in case of ICSE it was 18.59%. Infact, the number of Madhyamik students securing AA in individual subjects, too, has decreased from 2015.
Kalyanmoy Ganguly, the administrator of the West Bengal Board of Secondary education is well aware of being a low-scoring board as a drawback and also assures that from 2017 it will be an equal playing field for Madhyamik candidates as well. He said, “Our syllabus has been restructured. Even the evaluation system is being upgraded. From next year there will be many more MCQs and short questions, which will help our students, get good marks as those of other boards.”
The average marks in Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur is only 82 and the average aggregate 91.2%.
Board officials confirmed that the low marks secured by the Madhyamik students will not be a bar for admissions to class XI. “Most students prefer to study in their own school. Moreover, the percentage of successful candidates has gone up by only 1.5% from last year. Hence, everyone will be able to find a seat to study Plus II in higher secondary,“ one official argued.
Only two students were from Kolkata among the top 10 securing the ninth position among 66 candidates.
This year more girls had appeared than boys. While, only 5,19,260 boys took the exam, the number of girls was 6,24,112.
Therefore, this year CBSE and ICSE candidates outshine Madhyamik candidates.
