With just five days to go for the 61stnational school games, Tamil Nadu’s popular martial arts Silambam has become a bone of contention between two associations promoting the game. Silambam is an ancient defensive martial art where participants exhibit swift foot work, attack and movements with stick.
Indian Silambam Federation secretary general S Kesavan has now moved the Madras high court seeking a directive to the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) to conduct the event according to the rules being followed by the federation and recognised by Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT).
The national school games are scheduled to be held in Ranchi from January 16 to 20.
