According to a recent development between the HRD Ministry and MS, it has been decided that the MHRD will request Microsoft’s assistance as the technical partner in their ambitious SWAYAM project. SWAYAM(Study-Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) platform, that will launch 2,000 massive open online courses (MOOC) for over 3 crore students later this year will use Microsoft Apps to do so.
Ministry sources said Microsoft will deploy a team of dedicated people to set up a state-of-the-art application. The deal signed between Microsoft and All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) is worth Rs 38 crore. Microsoft will be running the app for three years after which it will be taken over by AICTE, the Indian partner. Meanwhile, UGC Credit Framework for online learning courses through SWAYAM Regulation, 2016 has been finalized, according to which, online learning courses shall be made available on the SWAYAM platform by the partner institution identified by National MOOCs coordinator.
