A small village in Maharashtra’s Nashik district has become the first gram panchayat in the state to install a sanitary napkin vending machine in a school. Around 275 girl students can use the machine in the privacy of school washroom. Apart from this vending machine, there is another machine which has been set up in the anganwadi so that women can make use of it. Due to the advent of such vending machines, girls are becoming aware of use of such sanitary napkins during menstruation, thus leading to a hygienic lifestyle. The schools have distributed around 500 cards, which needs to be swiped like an ATM card and has a specific code to access the machine.
