As with the advent of a single common entrance test for all medical colleges in India, the newly proposed National Education Policy Reforms is now suggesting a single common entrance examination for all the various streams, somewhat based on the American SAT model. The MHRD has proposed this idea that right after class 12, every student will have to sit for another all India entrance exam right after their respective Board exams and only after passing such an entrance can students opt for higher education. In another proposal, the TSR Subhramaniam led group of educators have also proposed to bring back detention from class V onwards.
However, even if the centre accepts the second proposal, not much impact will be felt in the state, since TMC, the ruling party of West Bengal has always been in favor of it as is  majority of the educators of the state. But the question of the hour is that for a common entrance, a common syllabus is required and achieving that feat is in itself a challenge. Language, social and other barriers are all going to play spoilsport for the proposal. However, the second proposal of detention to be resumed will also be done under check. If a student fails in the midterm, then the school teachers will have to address to their requirement and try giving them extra care. But if still such students fail, then they be detained in that class for a year again.
