There will be no armed guards in schools operated by the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) following a state government resolution. The board has decided to employ both armed and unarmed guards, preferably ex-servicemen of the Indian Army because of their training and crisis situation. However, a two-year old government resolution states that a fireman licence issued to any individual for self-protection cannot be used for commercial purposes such as guarding businesses and schools. The GR also states that the organization willing to employ armed guards must have a licence to buy firearms and train the guards they wish to employ with those arms, the organization being the PCB, and the employed guards must have separate licences to carry those arms on the premises.
