The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has issued a circular stating that the proposal of minimum percentage required to pass the theory papers of board exams will not be implemented this academic year. On 28thDecember 2015, TOI had reported that the state had rejected the proposal for 20% as the minimum pass percentage in theory exams for SSC and HSC, which was tabled by the board in October 2014.
The state board had sent out a circular to the divisional boards to that effect.
All board papers carry 80 marks in the written examination, except for science subjects which carry 70 marks for written exams and 30 marks for practical exams. According to the proposal, students would need a minimum 20%, which would be 16 marks for the 80mark papers and 14 marks for the 70-mark papers.
