The commissioner of education has roped in National Service Scheme (NSS) cadets to conduct the door-to-door survey after the state drew flak from teachers for giving them additional responsibility.

This year, the education department has conducted three surveys to record the number of children not attending school or those who have never been to school.

The teachers’ association has decided that they will not accept non-academic tasks, after which the education department decided to take the help of NSS volunteers.

As per the Right to Education Act, every child in the state must be enrolled in a school to study at least up to class VIII. On July 4, the state education department had decided to do a survey of children who were out-of-school.
