The school education and sports department gave its approval to around 1,085 schools for commencing operations on self-financed basis from the 2015-16 academic year. The department had stated that it had received over 4,000 proposals for starting new schools and upgrading current infrastructure. The schools have been given permission under the Maharashtra Self-Financed Schools Act.
