The State Education Department is planning random checks after November 30 deadline to ensure implementation of recommendations to reduce school bags weight. Schools will be appreciated if they have been able to implement the required measures. According to the guidelines, both parents and schools must ensure that the school bag’s weight should not be more than 10% of the student’s body weight.The state education department’s Mumbai region is also planning to host sensitising workshops for schools. Several teachers’ groups have also taken the initiative to formulate ways to help reduce the weight of the school bags.
