School students led by their project trainer have come up with an innovative design to ensure that two-wheeler riders wear the safety gear compulsorily. In this technology that they have designed, the bike will only start if the rider wears his helmet. Pooja, a student of Kaligi Ranganathan Montford Matric Higher Secondary School in Perambur, along with Jayakumar and Srinath from Class XI had worked on the project for more than a month under their project trainer Nirmal Kumar. The helmet uses radio frequency communication where a transmitter is placed on the helmet and the receiver in the bike and connected to the control unit so that the bike engine would not get ignited without wearing the helmet.
