Schools from the western district usually produces toppers in board examinations. But with the Directorate of government examinations implementing changes in the exam pattern this half-yearly exams, schools might find it difficult to produce toppers as they used to do. Districts like Namakkal, Rasipuram, Tiruchengode, Erode, Salem and Dharmapuri are known for residential schools that are good at training students to mug up concepts and answers. But with questions from outside the textbooks, that are application oriented, students will find it difficult to score full marks. The aim is to eliminate the rote learning system. In western districts, students of Class IX are given to teach books of Class X. This is not a healthy practice. Students require to understand the concepts rather than simply mugging up. Schools will now have to teach Class IX lessons in Class IX only.
