Three women, dressed as goddesses, seemingly look down worried rom the heavens as floods ravage Chennai. The sea, symbolised by a blue-white drape, is storm-tossed but another woman, in the garb of a commoner, approaches the victims and hands over food. The goddess’s smile and shower blessings. This could easily be a scene from a devotional play on an open air stage set beneath a huge tree, but for students of Ravindra Bharathi Global School the venue was the corridor of their school and the actors their teachers.
Teachers of the Nandambakkam-based school have come up with innovative ways to impart moral values to children in the aftermath of the floods. With such skits they are trying to tell children how they should help the flood-hit and not break down.
While counselling sessions have been going on after the floods, a few schools are on a confidence building mission having taken up creative ways to encourage children.
