The Bombay high court’s suggestion for schools to have CCTV cameras has caught aided institutes unawares. While aided schools may not be able to do it until there is help from the state, most private schools are already equipped with camera networks.
A major hurdle for aided schools in Maharashtra is lack of funds. Several schools have been saying that they do not receive non-salary grants from the state, which they can utilize to improve infrastructure.School managements want the government to step in to help implement the suggestion.
Some principals say that aided schools may be able to install the surveillance cameras. It is a necessity today. Schools can tap into NGOs, corporate social responsibility funds and its alumni network toinstall 50 cameras.
