At 12.30pm when the bell rings for the recess hours at Kalyani School, Pune, students of Class IV pull out their colourful tiffin boxes jam sandwiches and stuffed parathas, while Tanisha Pol, a ten-year-old student, tucks into a four-course feast- paneer oat burgers, beetroot-carrot kachumber and spinach hashbrowns. Her meal ends with barbequed pineapple slices. Her mother who is a businesswoman, no longer toils in the kitchen early morning as she has subscribed to a gourmet school dabba service. Every morning, at 7am, the doorbell rings and Tanisha’s healthy lunch is delivered home in a nice white container. A host of start-ups in the metros are preparing healthy tiffins for children aged 3-16 years based on menus designed by paediatric nutritionist. These are either delivered home or to the school during recess hours. Mumma’s lunchbox was launched in Pune around 2 months ago which caters to 35 children. These dabba systems are both fuss free and healthy. So children get to consume a wholesome healthy lunch during lunch hours which is beneficial to their healthy development.
