The state government has rejected the proposal for minimum pass percentage in theory exams for SSC and HSC that was tabled by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education in October 2014. The practice of students scoring an aggregate of 35 out of 100 in both practicals or orals and written exam to pass will continue.
Board chairman Gangadhar Mhamane said a formal announcement can be expected this week.
All board papers carry 80 marks in the written examination, except for physics, chemistry and biology, which carry 70 marks for the written paper and 30 marks for practicals. The proposal had mooted a minimum score of 16 marks (20%) for the 80-mark papers. For the sciences, the bar was set at 14 marks.
