Mohamed Rifath Shaarook Raaj M D, a student of Crescent Matric Higher Secondary School, Pallapatti, Tamil Nadu, got the first prize for his project work on nano satellite at the 23rd Children’s Science Congress.
Sateloscope is a nano satellite which is a combination of satellite and telescope. It is very light in weight when compared to standard satellite and small in size so it can be easily launched into orbit with lesser fuel. This satellite is equipped with solenoid coil to create artificial magnetosphere around it to protect itself from coronal mass ejection and solar flare.
Mohamed spent most of his time at science lab along with his father Mohamed Rifath Shaarook, a professor at Venkateshwara University, who recently passed away. He explained his father was his tutor and inspiration for his innovation. The model was developed five years ago when he was class VIII standard. He had spent Rs 3 lakh for the project and it was sponsored by Space Kids India that provides platform to children in science.
As many as 77 projects of students from across India showcased their innovative projects at the three-day expo.
