A recent survey conducted by a portal states that five schools from Kolkata have made it to the all India top 20 in terms of ISC performance.
The Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai with an average score of 93.2% per student tops the list. Vidya Niketan School, Hebbal, Bangalore, was put on the second place having the same score, because the Mumbai School had 98 candidates to Bangalore’s 60. Modern High School for Girls, bags the third place with an average score of 91.8% but the vital factor is that it had 183 candidates, which is far more than the top two combined.
Other top four performers from the city are, Garden High School, which ranked ninth with a whooping score of 90.9%. Rammohan Mission School ranked 12 th with an average score of 90.5%, Our Lady Queen of the Missions is at 13 th place with an average score of 90.3% and Calcutta Boys School at 16 th with 90%
This year, some prominent schools like Don Bosco Park Circus and Bhowanipore Education Society, performed really well, having two toppers who were ranked all-India third in ISC did not featured in the top 20. “I think assessing schools on the basis of holistic performance of the entire batch is far more scientific than just talking about individual toppers' scores,“ said Hilda Peacock, former principal of La Martiniere for Girls. Devi Kar, director of Modern High School for Girls, said: “We are thrilled. Our average score is thrilled. Our average score is very high, which shows that we have been able to bring up the entire batch well.”
Though being a new school, Garden High has emerged into the impressive top 20. Anuradha Das, academic adviser to the Satikanta Guha Foundation that runs the school, said, “Its because of our focus on education. Though extracurricular activities are important, we believe the focus should be on teaching-learning over everything else.”
The portal: thelearningpoint.net compared the scores of 500 schools across the country to come up with ranking.
The survey weighed overall performance of the entire batch instead of comparing only the top scorers. Since Bengali is the largest hub of Anglo-Indians Christians in the country, it has the largest concentration of CISCE- affiliated schools. Uttarkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are among those states that have significant concentration of CISCE.
This year, 72,000 candidates appeared for the ISC examinations from 1,000- odd schools.
Gerry Arathoon, The chief executive of CISCE, said, “The council does not officially commission such rankings. We leave it to individual schools to draw up their conclusions on the basis of the rankings. However, analyses on the basis of entire batches of schools can lead to many interesting graphs and might bring lesser-known schools in focus for the good work they are doing.“

Vivekananda Mission School, Joka : 29
