Winning is a habit and only needs a correct attitude. Justice is done to this statement by 4 students who have performed well in the West Bengal Higher Secondary Examination 2016, despite all the adversities that came in their way. Manish Mahato, Raj Gupta, Ranit Mishra and Rinku Kumari have finally succeeded after daily struggles and challenges to achieve what can be only said as having a fairy-tale ending.
Manish is a resident of Lohapatti. From his very childhood, he has witnessed domestic-violence by his drunkard father. In such difficult conditions, Manish, a student of Commerce in Sri Didu Maheshwari Panchayat School, managed to get 81 % marks in HS.
Raj Gupta is from Rambagan. But his house was in no better condition than Manish’s. In order to be able to study quietly for a few hours in the day, he had to go to his grandmothers house. His father Gopi is a rag-picker and seller and his mother Sandhya is a housemaid. But inspite of such hardships, Raj, a student of Sri Didu Maheshwari School has managed to succesfuly pass his HS exam with 76%.
Studying in Science stream was perhaps the biggest challenge for Ranit Mishra. His father was a hawker and such is their condition that getting a square meal once a day is a dream come true for them. Student of Gyan Bharati Vidyapeeth, Ranit managed to score 65% in HS thereby showing that the road to success isn’t always through a garden.
Rinku Kumari from Barabazar hasn’t had the best time in her madhyamik a couple of years back when she managed to score a bare minimum of 32%. But two years later, from Bhutnath Mahamaya Institution, Rinku got a 62% result in her HS. Now for a lot of people the absolute value of 62% may not be much, but for someone like her, whose father doesn’t earn and therefore her mother has to work as a daily labour, her journey was not easy.
Their hard earned and well deserved success is both terrific and remarkable. Its not everyday that people with so many challenges rise up and deliver at the right time. However, all of them unanimously agreed that without the help of Child in New Institution (CINI), which is an social-welfare organization for providing proper education for free in Learning Centres to such poor students, their road to success would have been ever more difficult.
All of these students want to help poor students in the future by being a part of CINI . In fact, Puja Das, a resident of North Kolkata’s famous brothel house has in the mean time started teaching for CINI after getting 75% marks in HS.
