A plastic water bottle and a straw are all it takes to explain the concept of density the moment you press the bottle, the floating straw goes down quickly because water enters the straw and density increases. The students can grasp the concept of air and water pressure in a few minutes if explained in this way. Their aim was: Prevent children from dropping out of schools.
The Bengaluru-based teenagers, who started thinking of ways to end boredom in classrooms, set up the Workshop Innovation Science Experiments (WISE) in 2012.WISE now has a team of over 100 volunteers who teach Science concepts to students of classes VIII to X in 18 schools in Bengaluru and four in Mumbai by holding supplementary education classes and workshops.The WISE initiative by Sai Suhas and Shashwat Behl has drawn appreciation from corporates too.Suhas has recently visited EWB-KIT (Engineers Without Borders Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), Germany, to discuss collaboration and training on installation of solar power projects in schools.
