During the summer break, the school was filled up with excitement and buzz as kids partied with wizards, wishing chair, Peter and Mollie. The junior library was filled with students who were eagerly chanting stories.

Children love to learn new words and phrases, compete with each other to spell them right and also come up with exciting synonyms and antonyms too.

Ahava Communication’s story-telling session was a part of its Books and Beyond programme this summer, at Modern High School for Girls. The kids learn new stories and are also given vocabulary lessons. They are also acquainted with details about popular authors.

Mona Sengupta of Ahava asks kids, “What did Roald Dahl love for lunch?”  “Norwegian prawns” comes the reply in chorus.

The project is mainly for students from class III to V. Though, the modules for senior students are also in talks.  The kids were thrilled to learn new words and their meanings. They were also taught about the differences between fiction and non-fiction.

“Every day is a treat. I am glad I came for it”, said Karishma Chotrani of Class V.

For Sengupta, the workshop environment is very vital. “I choose a place where children can relax and drift away to the world of fiction, away from gadgets.

The Books and Beyond workshop was a successful event, making it a memorable day for students. The workshop has been conducted in schools like, Calcutta International School, DPS New Town, Sushila Birla Girls’ and Birla Bharati.
