50% students who appeared for this year’s CBSE examination decided to continue with the board for HSC examination. In the year 2013, out of 29,540 students who appeared for CBSE Class X from Maharashtra, only 14,608 took Class XII board examination. But this year, the dropout rate is only 20% nationally. One of the major reasons for the steep dropout is the concept of Junior Colleges. There are no concepts of Junior Colleges in the country, whereas Maharashtra offers an opportunity of junior colleges and students get an option to switch to junior colleges just after the completion of school level examination. This makes them easier since they can graduate from the same place after their 12th examination is over.
