Anglo Indian Schools in Kolkata to stay closed on Tuesday

The sad demise of quizmaster Neil O’Brien, also the former chairman of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, has left the entire community with a void that can never be filled up by anyone. In order to mourn his death and as a gesture of respect, the association of heads of the Anglo Indian Schools in Kolkata has requested all school under its banner to remain closed on Tuesday. The member of the association comprises of more than 50 private English-medium schools in Bengal, a few of which are very renowned:

  • La Martiniere
  • Jame’s School
  • Xavier’s Collegiate School
  • Don Bosco Park Circus
  • Calcutta Boy’s School
  • Loreto House
  • Pratt Memorial

This far only the La Martiniere, St. James & Calcutta Boy’s Schools have confirmed that they will remain closed. The Quizmaster served as the Chairman for the tenure 1993-2011. He was also on the board of schools like La Martiniere, Frank Anthony Public School, etc. He was a nominated candidate as the representative of the Anglo community in the Bengal state legislature from 1977 to 1991, and also the Anglo Indian MP in the 11th Lok Sabha and the president-in-chief of the All India Anglo Indian Association.
The Service Timing for paying respect to Neil O’Brien is noon to 1 P.M on Sunday at Frank Anthony Public School. There will be another service to celebrate his life at Christ the King Church from 2.30 P.M-4.00 P.M. Some schools have also decided to observe two minute of silence at the morning assembly for this reason.
