Augustus Auxesis, a two-day inter-school extravaganza was hosted by Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore, Shyamnagar. Around fourteen schools from Barrackpore and Howrah, including the hosts participated in the fest that was organised in association with Young Metro. The participants from several schools showcased their musical bent of mind in events such as Augustus Sur Waves and Augustus Earthy Geeti. The latter saw a medley of performances with an earthy feel. Many of the participating schools sang songs of Lalan Fakir accompanied by drums, guitar and synthesizer. St. Augustine’s Day School won the competition with a melodious rendition of Amar moner manusher sane.
Augustine Nritya Canvas brought to stage a rhythmic fusion of eastern and western dance as participants combined of Kathak and flamenco and Bharatnatyam and pop and lock with ease. St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore, bagged to spot in this event and also clinched the over-all champions’ trophy. The fest concluded with star-studded guest performances by Shayne Hyrapiet, Kaushik Roy Chowdhury, Tista Banerjee and Rupankar Bagchi.
Abir Roy, a Class X student had coined the name, Augustus Auxesis which means growth. The event concluded successfully.
