Schools, corporates, individuals and residential societies in Ahmedabad and Vadodara had donated 51 tonnes of old newspapers towards the `Pasti ki Masti’ campaign that The Times of India carried out in the second half of 2015 along with the Times Foundation.
It was a noble cause that saved 131 girls who wanted to be police officers, doctors, teachers, scientists and engineers from becoming school dropouts. Waste newspapers helped tofulfil the stationery and uniform requirements of 7,136 underprivileged children.
On Christmas day the TOI readers came forward as a community and stood by children who were in need of help to continue their studies. A majority of the contributions came from schools, powered by TOI’s Newspaper in Education (NIE).
The donations helped to pay the school fees of girls, aged between eight and 17 years, who had dropped out from school dueto financial problems.
